The creation of JustCause was the culmination of a 4 year effort by the Monroe County Bar Association to coordinate a pro bono program to supplement the efforts of the two legal service agencies in the community that operate through staff attorneys of LawNY and the Legal Aid Society of Rochester.
JustCause began as a one-person operation, and the first attorneys primary task was recruiting attorneys for the volunteer panel. By September 1981, 75 attorneys had signed up as volunteers and the project opened its doors to clients.

The JustCause mission is to improve the quality of life of low-income people in Monroe County by ensuring the existence of a readily available panel of skilled volunteer attorneys to resolve serious civil legal problems.
Our vision is that, in collaboration with our partner organizations at the Telesca Center for Justice, JustCause will ensure that there are no unmet civil legal needs of low-income people in our community.
